People love to indulge in the sweet taste of ice cream, but it’s so fattening and unhealthy. A new favorite treat that students are starting to enjoy is frozen yogurt, so eSomethin.com decided to review two frozen yogurt places in Perrysburg — Lola’s Frozen Yogurt and Yogurt Vi.

Lola’s Frozen Yogurt was founded by Lolly Skeldon. It was opened last year in the Shoppes at RiverPlace near Walt Churchill’s Market on Dixie Highway and Eckle Junction Road. The store celebrated its first anniversary last Sunday.

Lolly says she wanted people to be able to eat great tasting food that was healthy and be able to make their own creations. This is exactly what Lola’s does. When you first walk in, you feel like you can have a good time and relax.

The fun part comes in creating your yogurt treat. Lola’s has a very wide variety of both yogurt and toppings to choose from. The yogurt choices range from Sweet Cheeks: Strawberry to Oreo Overload.

Usually Lola’s has nine to 15 yogurt flavors to choose from. The flavors are changed about once a week and depending on the season.

At Lola’s one of my favorite combinations is Strawberry yogurt with strawberry and kiwi. It’s really healthy and taste delicious. My second favorite is definitely the Oreo with Oreo topping. It a favorite of a lot of other people too.

I don’t like really care for the japans fruit. It has a weird texture, but I’m sure there are many people that like it. I think the top flavors would be: strawberry, blueberry, oreo and the orange Julius, which is to die for!! The best toppings would definitely be the mini brownies and all the fruits because they’re always fresh.

The fruits can pretty much be mixed with any flavor of yogurt and it will still taste good. Of course the candy is all good too. However, if you start to get crazy with all the toppings and yogurt, it can start to taste kind of funky. Lola’s has so many varieties though, that you can pretty much create anything to suit your taste.

For Halloween, Lola’s has flavors such as Pumpkin, but a favorite flavor is Oreo and it is delicious! Just as Lola’s has many yogurt flavors, it also has many topping choices — almost anything you can imagine from candy and fruit to bacon.

Which is one thing that makes Lola’s pretty unique. You can add cereal, chocolate candies, cake bites, Sour Patch Kids, syrups and sauces and even moci — a Japanese rice candy.

It’s obvious that people love Lola’s. It’s busy everyday and it’s a great place to come with friends. Yogurt costs 41 cents per ounce, which is kind of pricey. However, it is well worth the money with the great taste and not to mention all the health benefits. Lola’s yogurt contains probiotics that enhance digestive functions and is also a great source of fiber.

Lola’s also has a loyalty program. If you spend $30 or more, you get 10 ounces of yogurt free. Also, if Perrysburg teachers or students present their I.D. cards, they get 10% discount and as do seniors or veterans.

Lola’s hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Not to be outdone by Lola’s, Yogurt Vi is newer to the Perrysburg area, opening last March by Michael Lam. He wanted to provide a fresh, fast, and healthy way to eat.

Yogurt Vi is closer to the high school in Levis Commons and has a very first-class and young environment. It plays music videos and hip songs. Yogurt Vi has about 80 flavors of frozen yogurt that it switches out regularly. The flavors include Pomegranate Raspberry, Orange Tart, and a customer favorite — Cake Batter.

Yogurt Vi’s yogurt choices are also seasonal and have a nice variety. The store doesn’t have as many topping choices as Lola’s, but it does have a great selection, inclidng syrups like peanut butter, caramel, and marshmallow. It also has nuts, candies, fruit, and many other things.

Just like Lola’s, Yogurt Vi has many yogurt flavors and toppings that I love. I am really found of the cake batter because it tastes just like ice cream and it’s a lot healthier. I also really like their seasonal pumpkin flavor.

My all-time favorite is the chocolate flavor added with marshmallow syrup and nuts. It taste really good and satisfies chocolate cravings. Yogurt Vi also has so many different combinations to create and it can suit anyone.

Yogurt Vi attracts a crowd and has a fun and fancy feel to it.

The store also has information about the nutrition content of the yogurt. That’s really great because it shows that what you’re eating is truly healthy and you’re not left wondering.

Yogurt Vi is a little more pricey. It sell yogurt for 48-cents per ounce, but if you spend $50 on your reward card, then you get $5 dollars off your next purchase.

Yogurt V1 is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
